Behind the Scenes: Bringing Edmonton to the World
Edmonton loves sports, and we have a long history of hosting and supporting sporting events, big and small. But, we want to raise our profile to that of other famous Canadian cities like Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary. This year at the annual SportAccord International Convention in Quebec City, Edmonton will be featured as a premier destination for future events – on a global scale.
To achieve this, RED has partnered with Edmonton Events to create a virtual experience like no other. Using a large, interactive multi touch table, we’re bringing the full Edmonton perspective to the world’s stage. Conference attendees will be able to visit Edmonton virtually, and get to know the city as if they were really there.
Early User Experience Exploration

Development Begins

Our inspiration came from Google Earth, the popular program where anyone can easily explore communities worldwide at ground level. Edmonton is one of the most highly mapped cities in Google, with one of the highest concentrations of 3D buildings of any city. This allowed us to construct a truly unique experience that people will remember.
Building the table

The table itself a work of art. Designed and built in Portugal, it features a 47” LED multitouch panel for a seamless experience with our platform. Supported by a beautifully designed booth, this table brings it all together.
The Final Product

The final result is nothing short of amazing. It’s easy to use, and gives you a true sense of Edmonton, and what the city is all about. Together with the City of Edmonton, we’re ready to welcome these virtual visitors to our home and make history.

Recently, RED was given an Award of Distinction at the 2012 ACE Awards for our contribution to the FIFA 2015 campaign. Prison Dancer’s interactive journey
In 2007, a video was uploaded to YouTube of prison inmates in the Philippines dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” The clip went viral almost instantly, taking the world by storm. This unique story of the Dancing Inmates of Cebu has inspired an upcoming musical web series called “Prison Dancer.”
RED has partnered with Prison Dancer Web Inc. and producer Ana Serrano, writer/director Romeo Candido and co-writer Carmen De Jesus in Toronto to make “Prison Dancer” a fully interactive experience. Viewers will be able to choose how they want to engage with the story and the characters, culminating in a musical number. Different from a traditional web series, “Prison Dancer” allows users to create their own path of discovery with each episode.
“Prison Dancer” premiers March 2012.
Sing a happy love song with ETS
Taking the bus doesn’t have to be boring – it might inspire a spontaneous sing-along! The Edmonton Transit System has teamed up with RED to show off a different side of public transportation with a fun video. Featuring local musician Colleen Brown, this unique musical number draws attention to ETS in conjunction with its new and revamped online services. City of Edmonton Councillor Don Iveson can be seen in the video using the updated Trip Planner, a useful tool for any transit taker – now made even better. It’s almost enough to make you join in the choir.
You can also find “Happy Love Song” on the brand new ETS Facebook page.

Sports fans rejoice – hockey and football are back. But for some, just watching the game isn’t enough. They want more out of their experience. That’s where Sport Select comes in. Sport Select is the prairie’s premiere sports betting experience that takes you further into the game than you thought possible.
RED and the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) have launched a new Sport Select campaign, reminding fans to purchase their tickets for the new season. Using the theme “Get your game on,” the campaign consists of radio, TV, print and online ads. The humourous TV ads show sports fans embedded in the action in real sports locations (Rexall Place and Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton). The campaign runs until April 2012 in Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Sasktatoon and Winnipeg.

Where do you go when you want diet and nutrition advice? Most likely, you go online, or grab that magazine promising a slimmer shape in an unrealistic amount of time. However, the Alberta College of Dietitians wants to remind you that there are professionals you can turn to. A Registered Dietitian has the knowledge and experience to help you make sound, healthy choices.
RED is proud to announce the launch of the Alberta College of Dietitians awareness campaign. This campaign targets places where people make important nutrition and health decisions – at the grocery store, at the doctor’s office and online. Visuals of giant food utensils and the sounds of healthy food preparation draw the audience in where they are ultimately directed to the College’s website, thefoodexperts.ca, to access practical tips and information. The campaign runs for eight weeks beginning October 2011.
